Hawaii Writers Guild is affiliated with six writing groups whose members live (or formerly lived) in Hawaii. Typically, writers read a short piece or excerpt from a work in progress that is 2-3 pages long (500-750 words), then receive feedback from other participants. The tone is constructive and supportive. Unless noted below, pieces do not need to be submitted to the group in advance of the meeting. The role of the host is to run the meeting and moderate the discussion.

When first formed, groups met in person and thus were organized geographically. During the covid pandemic, the groups moved to an online format. Groups have retained their geographical names, but are open to all Hawaii Writers Guild members. As noted below, some groups meet online and some meet in person.
