Laura Burkhart
Laura’s first book of poetry, Venus Rising (Hagios Press), was short-listed for two Saskatchewan Book Awards. Her second poetry collection, Watermarks (Wild Sage Press), went into a second printing. As well as poetry, she writes fiction and non-fiction, which have been published in various literary magazines and broadcast on radio. She holds an MFA in fiction and poetry.
Laura’s background is in psychology, adult education, and community and international development. She has worked in Canada, the US, Asia, South America and the Middle East. Her work and travel have informed her writing and her world view.
Currently, Laura works as a writing coach, and editor. When living in Hawaii she was honored to be the first Writer in Residence at the Waimea Community Education Center. She also served as the Managing Editor of the inaugural issue of the HWG’s Latitudes, and, in subsequent years, as poetry and fiction co-editors.
